- Centenary team win Marketing Society Award for Excellence-

Britain’s best loved chocolate brand Thorntons last year celebrated its 100th birthday with customers and staff, and now the chocolatier is celebrating once again after winning a prestigious award for its Centenary activities at the Marketing Society Awards for Excellence in London.

The Centenary Team of Emma Clarke, Emma Tagg, Emily Campbell and Sarah Emery took home the award for Thorntons after the Derbyshire chocolate company’s submission stood out in the category which also included McDonalds, British Gas and Hiscox.

To celebrate 100 years of making delicious chocolates, Thorntons created an itinerary of exciting activities and successes included: breaking the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Bar of Chocolate at 5,762.5kgs, the Cycle 100 challenge where employees cycled from John O’Groats to Lands End, the visit of HRH the Princess Royal to Thornton Park, the Chocolate Kabin and Live Mechanical Chocolatier tour of the UK and the 100 Golden Keys competition.

To win the coveted award, Thorntons demonstrated how they’d achieved outstanding marketing results across these activities through the deployment of multi-disciplinary teams working towards a common goal. The judges called it a great example of teamwork that enthused the entire staff.

Jonathan Hart, Thorntons CEO was delighted with the award and said: ‘The key to Thorntons’ success last year was the involvement of colleagues from all areas of the business who showed true passion and commitment to raising awareness of the brand and celebrating success with customers and each other. Thorntons used the marketing activities around its 100th birthday to bring together the entire business, involving all employees, many suppliers and agencies in its celebrations.’
