Product Information

  • What is Thorntons policy on the use of Genetically Modified ingredients?

Thorntons do not use GM ingredients or derivatives of GM ingredients.

  • What are polyols?

Polyols (also known as sugar alcohols) are carbohydrates, but not sugars. They are added to our diabetic products in place of sugars. Unlike sugars, polyols are absorbed slowly & incompletely from the small intestine into the blood & therefore cause smaller increases in blood glucose & insulin levels. They are also lower in calories than sugars.

Excessive consumption of polyols MAY cause laxative effects however such symptoms will depend on an individual's sensitivity .Examples include maltitol & isomalt - they will be included on the ingredients list as "sweeteners".
Confectionery containing polyols as sugar replacers can be useful for diabetics for the above reasons, however whether they are suitable for an individual diabetic will be a matter for the individual & his/her health professional.

  • Is Thorntons ice cream heat treated (pasteurised)?

To ensure that all harmful bacteria are destroyed, ice cream has to be heat-treated by law. The egg is also pasteurised before being added to the ice cream mix.

  • Do you sell any products which are free from all additives/E numbers?

No. Not all additives/E numbers cause adverse reactions and we could not survive without some of them. Vitamin C has an E number, as does pectin and sodium bicarbonate.

  • This product doesn't contain nuts, but the packaging says it may contain nut traces.

Products containing nuts are produced on the same production line as those without nuts. A clean down procedure is followed between products, however there is still a chance that traces may remain.

  • Is Thorntons chocolate organic?

No, with the exception of the recently launched Organics Box

  • Do Thorntons chocolates contain caffeine?

Yes. Caffeine is naturally present in the cocoa beans used to produce chocolate. It is at its highest levels in dark & milk chocolate. Generally white chocolate contains the lowest amount.

  • Why can't Thorntons Dark Chocolate be guaranteed milk free/lactose free?

During production both milk & dark chocolate are used on the same machinery. A clean down procedure is followed between products, however there is a chance that cross contamination of milk to dark chocolate may occur.

  • Are any Thorntons products Muslim Halal approved?

No. However, as Muslims often request products that are both vegetarian-friendly & alcohol-free, the appropriate separate list from the Product Information pack MAY be of use.

  • What are trans fatty acids?

They are found in hydrogenated fat and naturally in milk fat. Research has associated a high intake of trans fatty acids with an increased risk of heart disease. We do not use hydrogenated vegetable fats in our products.

  • Bouquets

We want you to enjoy your flowers for as long as possible and as such we recommend that you observe the care instructions enclosed with your bouquet.

To enhance the life of your bouquet we advise the following....

    1. Trim the ends by cutting approximately 3cm from the stems.
    2. Do not cut through the joints.
    3. Use clean vases or containers.
    4. Do not use metal containers as they can neutralise the effects of the flower food included with your bouquet.
    5. Place your bouquet in a cool position away from direct sunlight and heat.
    6. Remove any foliage that falls beneath the water line level as this will decompose and contaminate the water.
    7. Add fresh water daily.

Special Note: Please be aware that Lily pollen can stain. In case of contact, please leave to dry then brush off. Do not use water. For freshness, some flowers are sent to you in bud, ready to open.
